Roger Federer owns US Open

For this past week, up to and including the men's finals played in the late afternoon match on Sunday, I have watched Roger Federer win and opponents fall. And many in the world watched as Federer won his 4th US Open, Federer takes 4th US Open. I'm not even a novice when it comes to tennis, just a spectator. I cannot match the critique and fine-tuned analysis of the tennis experts but I do know mastery when I see it and Sunday I would have liked to have seen even more. Many of the experts speculated on "how do you beat Federer?" Why should that be the attitude? You win by playing better, much better but therein lies the challenge. Federer seemed to give Novak Djokovic many opportunities but I don't think that's really what we saw. To me, what we saw was a champion "in the zone", focused and dedicated to letting his opponent bring the game to him - not Federer dictating the game. He's Swiss and he's as smooth as a fine-tuned Swiss watch known for such perfection and elegance that the simple act of keeping time is made to look easy. But Federer is not mechanical; he is artistic; he is tennis. I would have preferred to see Federer play Moya or Ferrer in the finals because I believe they let the game come to them as does Federer and are both too good to have beaten themselves. Roger Federer is a master, a seemingly genteel man with poise and chilvary who presses and has no fear of the net, no fear of his opponents. He allows opponents to play "their" game. When he decides, he spikes from the net, takes the point, and plays on to the next point. Long live Federer! Federer's secret - aside from being good - he has respect for himself, for his opponents, and for the love of his life - Lady Tennis! Federer is the Knight of the Tennis Court and he even wore his Tux!
