Obama might send troops into Musharraf's Pakistan?
Okay, this is painful but I must agree with Senator Clinton on one tiny little issue as related in an article in the Telegraph, Obama 'would send troops into Pakistan'. According to the article by Toby Harnden in Washington,
"In an advance copy of a speech due to be delivered today, the Illinois senator, who is trailing Hillary Clinton in the race to become Democratic nominee, said he would dispatch forces to Pakistan even without the permission of President Pervez Musharraf. "There are terrorists holed up in those mountains who murdered 3,000 Americans," Mr Obama will say at the Woodrow Wilson International Centre for Scholars. "They are plotting to strike again. It was a terrible mistake to fail to act when we had a chance to take out an al-Qa'eda leadership meeting in 2005. If we have actionable intelligence about high-value terrorist targets and President Musharraf won't act, we will." Mr Obama's speech follows an angry row with Senator Clinton which erupted after he said in a debate that he was willing to meet leaders of rogue states like Cuba, North Korea and Iran without conditions within the first year of his presidency. Mrs Clinton blasted this statement as "frankly, naïve" and irresponsible while Mr Obama shot back that the New York senator's vote to authorise the Iraq war meant she was "Bush-Cheney lite". Thousands of Taliban fighters are based in Pakistan's vast and jagged mountains, where they can pass into Afghanistan, train for suicide operations and find refuge from local tribesmen. US intelligence experts fear that al-Qa'eda is regrouping there in preparation for another massive attack on America.Musharraf has already stated that he will not take kindly to "invasionary" troops being sent into Pakistan. I agree with him. We need to support him as best as we can and if, or when, he asks for American troops or an allied force, then and only then do we publicly entertain the notion. Musharraf is in charge in Pakistan. I hope Musharraf beats the stuffing out of the al-Qaeda terrorists who are controlling part of Pakistan but to send in American troops without his request, now that is naive. To even say that as a presidential candidate, one is willing to involve American troops in yet another nation's internal battles is a little off-putting. Seems the Kos Kids won't like this much if Obama delivers the speech as portrayed in the advanced copy. But the very last thing Musharraf needs is our "rules of engagement" stuffed down his throat. If that happens, might as well just truss him up and roast him. We invade western Pakistan with out Musharraf's invitation and Musharraf is toast and the Taliban, al-Qaeda, and all the bad boys and girls get the Nukes. Way to go, Obama. Now, that's real "gravitas" talking. Real diplomacy too. Anyone want to take bets that he cuts that little tidbit out of his "prepared" speech?
