No Sharia Law for the United States - NEVER!
President Obama mentioned in Turkey today that not long ago folks that looked like him were not allowed to vote. That was in the 1860s. Women in America - regardless of skin color - were NOT allowed to vote for the first time until 1920. President Obama said that the United States is not at war against Islam. True. The West has not been in a war to defend itself from Islam since 1683 when the Muslims were defeated at the Gates of Vienna. And then there was Tripoli when America had to defend her sailors from being killed by Muslim pirates. But back to the point... The United States is NOT at war against Islam. What the United States - and so-called Western nations - needs to know down to the marrow of their bones is that Islam IS at war against the United States, against non-Muslims anywhere, wherever they may be, and Islam is on the march to defeat and dominate all non-Muslim nations. Islam is on the march to bring all of us to our knees into submission to a ruthless political theocracy. Which condones horrors such as the honor killings in Texas. No Sharia Law for the United States, you cannot murder your daughters, Sarah and Amina, for falling in love with two fine young Texas cowboys. God bless you, infidels! Ooh rah!

Beach Girl - Please know that I believe (as you apparently do) that Sharia Law is incompatible with what I perceive as a real democratic or republican form of government. However the second sentence of the first paragraph of your post (excerpt below) implies that women have been more discriminated against with respect to the right to vote than black people. That notion is ill informed.

If one knows a smattering of political history of the United States, one knows that blacks were denied equal protection under the law, which included their right to vote, at least 104 years after 1860 - throughout the south, as well as in some other parts of the country. The period between 1860 and 1965, saw the ratification of the XIV, XV, and XXIV amendments, as well as the ratification of the XIX Amendment.
In spite of the first three of these amendments, it took the Voting Rights Act of 1964 to finally put a significant dent in the wall that stood between blacks and their right to vote in the south.
