Nancy Pelosi and The Logan Act of 1799, amended 1994

I have been asked how Nancy Pelosi's recent actions in Syria could have violated US Law. The answer is to be found in The Logan Act of 1799, amended 1994. Ms. Pelosi went to Syria against the direct request of our president in a time of war. She engaged in negotiations - semi or pseudo - with the Syrian president - a known supporter of terrorists. She also was trying most probably to assure him that when Democrats win the White House in 2008, there will be no more foolishness about us fighting a war against those silly radical Islamic terrorists. Tut, tut! She tried to preempt our foreign policy and if you are interested, which you are not, see my post Iraq War - a loss is a win in Democrat strategy to humiliate President Bush addresses the Democrat Party's blind hatred of all things President Bush, even up and including harming our troops. The Logan Act (to borrow from Wikipedia) provides the appropriate information about Ms. Pelosi's possible infractions or violations of US law:
The Logan Act is a United States federal law that forbids unauthorized citizens from negotiating with foreign governments. It was passed in 1799 and last amended in 1994. Violation of the Logan Act is a felony, punishable under federal law with imprisonment of up to three years. The text of the Act is broad and is addressed at any attempt of a US citizen to conduct foreign relations without authority. However, there is no record of any prosecutions or convictions under the Logan Act.[1][2]
So, a lawless nation we seem to be when Democrats aid and abet the enemy and never have to take responsibility for their seeming felonies. I cannot use the word "loathe" with the same vehemence of the great Bill Clinton in describing his attitude toward the military of the United States - but you have to admire his mastery at dissembling. I cannot use "I spit on you" with the effect of the late Oriana Fallaci. I just regret that honest, law-abiding, patriotic Americans will have to pay the price for Democrat Folly. We, however, deserve it as we did throw the "bumbs" out just to get a different set of "bumbs." Now, our military men and women will pay the price along with the innocent Iraqi men, women, and children. Take a look at The Logan Act under which no one has ever been "punished" if I understand it correctly. Too bad our current Justice Department didn't dust the act off and apply it. It is one thing to visit a nation as a private citizen, take the tours, eat the food, but to be hosted by the president of a terrrorist-sponoring nation, to engage in "talks", illicitly representing our foreign policy is to aid and abet the enemy and to undermine our president and our military in a time of war. No "hate crimes" for that sort of felony, right? There was a time when engaging in those actions on foreign soil at a time of war was called "treason."

Oh and by the way, thanks for taking the time to post a comment on my blog. I appreciate the fact that you even read it! I looked at yours too, and even though we're on opposite sides, your blog is very well done!

Toni, thank you. We are Americans and the sides we are on are meaningless when we are threatened. In that we stand together. Wishing you a good, a very good day!

Today, I went to Virginia Tech - to the Drill Field. Close to Norris Hall where the murders took place on April 16, 2007.

I will post on the experience and the feelings when I have the pictures developed - don't have a digital camera yet. Believe me, we stand as one!

The bickering and squabbles are nothing to the hug of a mother and father who have lost their daughter to such horror.

Thank you for stopping by. Come back again! We can meet at the gate in the hedge - the gate where ideas are shared and our similarities far out-weigh our differences in little things.
