Palin: "We won't be taken advantage of again!"
During the debate, Sarah Palin - when asked about the economic credit crisis - said (paraphrasing), "We have a lot to learn from this and we, the people, aren't going to be taken advantage of again." She suggested that we might start being smarter and using credit less, stop over-extending ourselves financially, and not falling for "slick" mortgage loan packages including those "home equity loans" which are just second mortgages by a different name. Sarah is right; we, as Americans, have to become more responsible for ourselves and for the financial decisions we make. Remember, banks and mortgage companies are NOT loaning us money to help us. They are in business to make money just like the drug companies, the Home Depots and Lowe's and the Walmarts. We just have to change our attitude toward our hard-earned money and credit card debt. And we need to save more. Here is an old expression growing out of the Great Depression: "Use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without!" I don't suggest we need to be that austere but we should look around in our daily lives and be a bit more wise in the decisions we make when it comes to purchasing. How many TVs do we need? How many cars in the driveway? We can turn this economy around by turning around our own spending habits and we can keep ourselves from falling for the traps of "slick" mortgages such as "interest" only loans. We can do this and take our destiny out of the hands of Congress and the government and PUT OUR DESTINY BACK under our own control. And we can start by paying off credit card debt, cutting up those kazillion credit cards, and, when we don't need a record, paying with cash. Let's take our country back, starting with getting our own household in financial good health. We can start small to be sure, but we can start and we can START NOW.
