General Petreas, Rules of Engagement endanger our troops!

Steve left the following comment at a recent post here. He is right. Since Vietnam and including Vietnam, our military have had to follow rules of engagement that are laughable and deadly to us. Can't you imagine in WWII if men on patrol had to call back for permission to fire when fired upon? "Too bad that General Petreas doesn't have the gonads that Pershing once possessed. But then again I also blame the existing ROE and the failing strategies we have in place over there. Our generals we have today are nothing but spineless puppets who can't move a tank without permission from the Pentagon. No, NOTHING has changed in those respects, regardless what we're being told. Our armed forces can't even fart against the wind without written permission." Let our men and women fight! Let them win - what they do best! And show Dhimmicats the door in 2008 - the door out of the Senate and the House. Today, I'll be watching the "greatest deliberative body on earth" - gag, gag, gag - the Senate as they work to destroy our nation. Hey, what NAFTA's super highway won't do, the Senate and the President will finish off with the amnesty bill. I listened to part of Matt Drudge's radio show last night - too bad he doesn't comment more and have fewer long interludes of music - part of the issue is that this administration and this government can't find its way out of a wet paper bag except for trackihng innocent law-abiding Americans. Ever vigilant! Ever free! God bless our American military and our undercover agents!

I thought Petraeus was the man to lead the surge, from what i heard he was making real progress in Iraq. Perhaps not.

Last night we went down in the basement to watch "Black Hawk Down." It was very realistic and very close to factual events. During the movie, I heard the old "do not fire until fired upon." See, THAT is the whole problem. If you're going into harm's way, and you know that there are armed gunmen, as in the case of Mogadishu, you should be firing on the enemy BEFORE you are shot at.

There's also the case of women and children being in the way, too. Imagine what crap ROE the Israelis have, knowing full well that Hamas and Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade take along children for the ride into their excursions for attacks against the IDF, and they can't shoot back because children are in the way.

I'd be shooting everything in sight, even children, if I knew that my life were in danger. Only thing is, BBC is always there, ready to cover the scoop that an IDF soldier shot and killed a child.

THIS emobodies the biggest problem that we have - facing an enemy that will drag women and children into war with them, using them as human shields. Sorry, but collateral damage should be the focus, and lay the blame on the enemy that brings non-combatants into battle is a cowardly act in itself.

Thanks for the kind recognition here.

The military serves at the direction of their civilian leaders. Ultimately, the ROE at any given time is controlled by our politicians. Having sworn to uphold the orders of their superiors, all military, including the top brass must comply. One follows orders or one doesn’t. The only real option officers have is to resign under protest, but that is an action that may only replace one officer with an even more politically correct office. Many O’s stay to do the best they can to protect their men.

I agree with you completely that the current ROE costs American lives that could be spared by a realistic military driven ROE. Not only that, a PC ROE only encourages the enemy.

We ARE engaged in a total war for western survival, but for their own small reasons the politicians continue to play politics while the Jihad is advancing. I dread to think what it will take to wake up the west. We need more politicians imbued with the warrior spirit and less with protecting their own sorry butts.

Hi Beach Girl,

How are you doing my friend, you are absolutely right about the military not being run like it used to be back around the WWII days. My favorite General back then Was General George S. Patton, you fight to make the other poor saps die for their country is his very words.

Phil, I love Patton and was glad that George C. Scott "played" a better Patton than our wonderful General did.

Eric - you could leave the link so others could click over there. I'll give the cite a look. I'm so behind on updating my links.

MK - he is there for the surge and doing welll, it's just that our military is hamstrung by the cowardly Congress. Petreas is good but he can take the issue to the civilian leaders for consideration - if they want to win that is. I will hate to see our military brought home in "defeat" at the feet of the Dhimmicats.

Thank you all for taking the time to stop by. I appreciate your time very much.

Just ask any Marine what he/she thinks about our current ROE. It's downright dangerous.

To further that, our generals nowadays won't do anything without word from MadDill AFB.

I distinctly recall when we were down with Operation Provide Comfort in December 1992. I was on the white flagship, LaSalle. CNN News was on the Mogadishu beach that early morning when we first came in there. Two tomcats from the USS Ranger came in on a low approach, and CNN reported that elements of the US Navy were the first to arrive. The discussion that took place between General Hoar of MacDill AFB and Adm. Doug Katz (COMUSNAVCENT) didn't sound good at all. Hoar was cussing out Katz because he did NOT want US Navy to be the first visible landing force. He wanted the Marines, and the Pentagon wanted to fulfill that "...From the sea" crap PC ideology, depicting Marines landing on the beach.

That was a prime example of what I'm talking about - you're right, we're a far cry from the days of WWII and how the military on-scene commanders fought against the enemy without having to constantly check in with US shoreside battle commanders who aren't even on-scene to see what is going on.

Yes, in Vietnam, our men had to ask permission to fire when being fired upon.
