Michael Medved ends today's show blasting William and Mary's BoV and ill-suited president about Wren Cross and the Sex Play
Well, the Board of Visitors and their president puppet or maybe it is the other way around, should be proud to know that they are bringing The College of William and Mary to its knees. My left-coast operative told me today that Michael Medved ended his radio talk show today with comments about the embarrassment and dangerous ground the BoV and ACLU puppet nic are a laughing stock. The board of visitors formed a group to study Religion in Public Universities. This is how the breakdown starts. And this is how Bill Clinton divided this nation through such committees as the Committee to study Race Relations in the US. A negative + a negative don't always end with a positive. Nothing good is coming from the well-planned anti-Christian actions of president nichol. Make no mistake. Nichol took the action because it is easier to take the action which you know will be inflamatory without asking permission to change the policy. The Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia would be well-advised to remove all members of the Board of Visitors and accept the resignation of president nichol. Virginia has a proud heritage on many fronts. We've had our proud moments and our not so proud moments. One strength we have always had has been The College of William and Mary. But having a BoV and a president working overtime to destroy one of the most well-respected universities in the nation should not be tolerated. Governor Kaine - please send these folks a note saying, "Your resignations on my desk by xyz will be accepted. If letters of resignation are not forth-coming, expect letters removing you from your prestigious positions by return mail." The College of William and Mary, the citizens of Virginia, need at least one responsible adult in authority to bring common sense to the college. The Save the Wren Cross.org folks have been put in the only position they can accept - they are fighting for one thing - the restoration of the over 70-year policy; they are fighting for the prestige of The College of William and Mary. Governor Kaine, please call the BoVs and the president for a meeting at the wood pile. Don't let the ACLU's surrogate to destroy the prestige of the great College of William and Mary.

What does a Christian Symbol have to do with the prestige of the University. As a Christian, I think removing such symbols from common areas is highly appropriate and good for all -- including Christian spirituality.
Nichols has shown himself to be a man of courage, integrity, intelligence and ...ok, even very Christian. I praise him.
Good for you. Removing a cross, the Wren Cross, from a small, obscure - out of the public eye - Christian Chapel is not just any old "common" area.
Cemeteries are "common" areas; Arllington Cemetery is a "common" area. It could be argued that the steeples on Christian churches invade "common" areas in that they are on display in the open air for all and sundry to see.
In this case, the prestige of the college has been damaged by nichol's unilateral behavior. He will probably "win" but at a dear cost. And of course, the Sex Show that followed the cross removal on campus of course mocked Christians. If you didn't see the pictures of it, I can assure you the parents of the college girls (at the College of William and Mary) shown in the skit are really getting their money's worth and are probably proud to see the pictures of their daughter performing simulated oral sex on a dildo. [I'm not sure if the play was performed in the Wren Chapel or not.]
How about removing all visible signs of that very frightening and clearly powerful cross from across the land? That would be only fair would it not - so as not to offend 1) the secularists of all stripes, and 2) the star and crescent folks.
So far, in America, we have the right to disagree and still be friends. That may not always be the case in the matter of expressing our opinions. Back to nichol - he has many folks who support him - all fine folk - but he did not remove a cross from sight - he reversed a decades long policy that allowed the Wren Cross to be on display behind the altar in the century's old Christian Chapel unless a group wanting to use the Wren Chapel for a meeting, etc. asked to have it removed. Now anyone wanting the Wren Cross on display must "ask permission" for the Wren Cross to be removed from a locked closet. I'm at the point of suggesting for historical accuracy, that the Wren Cross be returned to Bruton Parish Church folks who gave it as a gift over 70 years ago and that the Ten Comandments and other religious "tablets" be refashioned to spec in marble and bolted to the interior walls of the Wren Chapel as they were before the Wren Chapel burned - to be historically accurate which was nichol's excuse, oh that and that one person was offended by visiting the Wren Chapel and - gasp - seeing the cross in a Christian Chapel.
But nichol - a brave and courageous person - no. He made the decision unilaterally (in the dark of secrecy as it were), followed no procedure for involving the college community first because he knew he would be stopped or at least forced to involve the community and feared he would be stopped - he rolled the dice and insulted many people, not all of them Christians. I doubt he would have had such success had the symbol been the star and crescent. Some religions are "protected religions". Christianity and Judaism are not among them. Wicca and others are. Try removing a star and crescent anywhere in Saudi Arabia because they offend a visitor and see how lucky you are. For that matter, try bringing in a Bible and see what happens to you. Saudi has a state religion which is a political ideology; we do not.
We are fortunate that we can have differing opinions in America at the present time. Don't expect that to last as HR 288 is designed to make any mention, criticism, or even scholarly discussion of Islam or Islamists by non-muslims "hate speech" punishable as crimes with fines and jail time attached.
The fate of that tiny cross in the Wren Chapel stands for much more and if nichol had been genuine he would have and could have addressed the one complaint in such a way that the situation would have not become known from shore to shore. Of course, one could consider that national exposure was his goal in the first place.
As it stands, the 16,000+ folks who have joined the Save the Wren Cross.org movement which only wants his policy reversed are criticized for not rolling over and playing dead as any loyal secularist would have had them do.
While you and I can disagree, the Save the Wren Cross folks are criticized for exercising their freedom of speech and for not falling on their swords as it were.
Thanks for your comment here. You may want to add it over at Save the Wren Cross Blog. I'll make sure it gets posted.
