The Congressional Elections

Several things make me angry about the up-coming elections. The worst thing is that, in some cases, the choices are not between the best America has to offer but rather the less of the two mediocre candidates. For some time now, many mediocre personalities have been the only ones stepping up to the plate to represent us. Perhaps one reason is that the Congress has become a "welfare state" for the elected. They no longer are citizen representatives with jobs at home among their constituents. The Senate Democrats have unconstitutionally turned the simple majority into an almost unattainable 61 needed to pass anything, and therefore are concerned not a wit about us. The fact that cities in America must defend themselves from this invasion is deplorable. That they must pass laws making English their official language is embarrassing. The House seems to be trying to take action. Issues for me in this election are maintaining our national sovereignty, stopping illegal immigration, decreasing legal immigration, and not supporting the U.N. and its lunacy. As I said, in some cases, not all, elections have become a case of electing the "lesser of two wevils" as Richard Crowe said in that great movie, Master and Commander. To the real men, please keep defending us. We need you!

Well, after the brou ha ha over the Path to 9/11, I'm now a one issue voter. I can't in good conscience pull the lever for anyone with a D beside their name after that.

About the D, I can't pull that lever. I have voted the R and now volunteer actively for campaigns of candidates I support with the R.

The Dems just don't get it at all. Everyone wants to buy the Hispanic vote but more often than not, these folks are very principled, have strong family values, and don't want to live off the welfare state. They know that gets them no where.

Don't care for #5but when I go to vote, I take my passport as identification. Throws 'em off every time. I don't know if it's because my picture looks like I've been out in the rain or because I have a passport.

Seems to me an ID when you vote isn't so bad but I like the purple finger route. So, run for Pres. Let Congress take the heat for the ID card.

How about Gingrich/Tancredo in '08? I think that would be great myself. :)

A lot of politicians are like the grandmother in Flannery O'Connor's "Good Country People" -- they'd do the right thing if they had a gun held to their head every minute.

That would be quite a pair. Tancredo is the best and Newt is certainly an historian and politically very astute.

Actually, I'd like the ticket reversed. Either way, it would be great. Tancredo has said he will run if no one runs who supports national sovereignty. I call his office sometimes just to thank him for his efforts.

Steve, join your local Republican Party City Committee. Where do you think the candidates come from? On the local level, the city committee helps select/find them. Start small, city council, (actually school board is a good place), then work your way up to state delegate. They'll get you the money. I was amazed at the contacts these folks have.

CBG, as a conservative Hispanic Republican I agree with most of what you say. I'm also totally in agreement with stopping this BS appeasement crap with the terrorists. Do we honestly think they're going to stop and make nice with us just b/c we "show them a good example"? BS, they hate us and they'll continue to hate us, we have to hit them hard and teach them a lesson. (Frankly, if my recent experiences with Democratic City Council encroachments with their idiot regulations on my small business are any indication, we need to teach the Dems a lesson, too.)

Just one thing I take issue with-- the GOP seriously needs to back away from all this official English BS. Hispanic conservatives tend to pick up English easily anyway especially after a couple generations, this is a non-issue, and all the English-only agitation only serves to rub a lot of otherwise supportive people the wrong way. A number of my Hispanic friends in the Chamber of Commerce here have inclined to vote Republican recently, but they've been turned off by all the official English talk and are not voting at all because of it. The perception is of language police going around and policing the way people choose to speak to one another-- which just seems ridiculous, seems like one of those government impositions the French are obsessed with, not Americans. People here do just fine without that. Let's just focus on the many far more important issues that unify us, such as free markets, the rule of law and fighting the terrorists wherever they may be hiding.

GOP Paul, you have some good points. Perhaps one of the problems right now is that the illegals (regardless of nation of origin) are throwing everything in our faces.

There are many issues that unite us. Hope your friends will vote if they have worthy candidates.

Also, the perception is that the illegals from Mexico particularly don't want to assimilate. I know the unions who want to get membership dues from these folks are pushing them. Maybe there are different methods.

But the town near Mexico, in Texas, that made Spanish their official language may send the wrong message.

Thanks for visiting. Come back anytime. I enjoy the shared views. That is what helps us be Americans.

GOP Paul, if you have time, please read my post on Americans pay price for illegal aliens. That story of my friend is true.

And a friend of mine lost her husband in a car crash, hit head-on by a drunk. This guy had priors and was American citizen so anyone can create these deaths. We just don't need to add to the situation. A Left Coast friend tells me not to worry about it. He says invasions happen, cultures come and go, and America has been in decline since 1965.

Frankly, I just don't like the Mexican flag being waved in our faces at protests on American soil. Long story. I have several posts on this topic.

Try to get your friends to vote. Staying home is not the answer. I don't agree with everything the Republicans do but for small businessmen, I think Dems would be worse.

Oh, the differences there are definately huge. Most of the recent tax cuts were aimed at small businesses, no matter all the Dem BS about tax cuts for the wealthy. Accelerated depreciation and other tools were used by plenty of small businesses at a time when they needed help.

And, small business is one way for Americans to rise economically and therefore every other way.
